The Management of the facility led by Dr. Peter Adjei Frempong, the Medical Director, paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive of Afigya Sekyere, Hon Catherine Reckling to give updates on Covid 19 situation in the District.
The meeting was part of the continuous effort of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) to update major stakeholders of healthcare on the activities conducted by their facilities with respect to the Covid 19 pandemic. In his address, Dr. Adjei Frempong said that “The facility has been able to train all 12 facilities in the District from November to December 2020”. He said the training was necessary as many people had relaxed on the safety protocols of the current pandemic.
The District Health Director of Health Service, Mr. Robert Mensah, in his address also thanked the Hospital Management for their relentless efforts in the District’s fight against the pandemic. He said the facility had taken about 80 percent of the total samples of the District.
The District Chief Executive, Hon Catherine Reckling in her response expressed her appreciation for the work of the faculty in this difficult time. She pledged her support in whatever capacity the facility may need the Assembly to offer. She further intimated, ” A letter would be given to all community radios and information centers not to charge hospitals for health education and sensitization programs: its a shared responsibility.”
The health facility has been instrumental in the fight against Covid 19. It has taken over 900 samples to the Kumasi Center for Scientific Research at their own cost. The facility currently has an average positivity rate of 2% out of the total samples. The facility recorded their highest cases in June with an overwhelming 22% positivity rate of both staff and patients. The facility currently has a two-bed holding area that holds patients who are suspected of Covid 19 while awaiting their results. It has also intensified their screening and triaging procedures at the hospital. It is a hospital on alert as it remains the referral center for severe conditions at the hospital. It has so far recorded one Covid 19 related death.
In attendance at the meeting were representatives of the Hospital (The Medical Director, Dr Peter Adjei Frempong, The Administrator, Mr. Kofi Adu Gyamfi, The Nurse Manager, Mr. Isaac Agyemang Gyasi and The Head of Finance, Mr. Joel Essuman. The District Health Administration was also represented by Mr. Robert Mensah, the District Director of Health Service.
